Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Engr. Jude Sinebe, has assured students, staff and management of the state-owned College of Physical Education, Mosogar, that the state government would soon give approval for the convocation ceremony of the institution.
Sinebe, who gave the assurance during his visit to the college, said that the Ministry of Higher Education was working very hard to secure approval for the convocation ceremony of the college from the state government.
“Very soon, approval for the convocation ceremony of your college would be given by the state government”, the commissioner affirmed while responding to the issues raised by the Provost of the institution, Prof. Emmanuel Ojeme, during the visit.
On the encroachment on the college land, he disclosed that the ministry would do the needful in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Urban Development to secure the school land from those who are encroaching on it.
While saying that the ministry was irrevocably committed to promoting improved and sustained academic standard in all tertiary institutions in the state in line with the SMART agenda of the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration, Sinebe added that the ministry would do all it could within the ambit of its mandate to see how some of the challenges facing the college could be solved.
Earlier, the Provost of the college, Prof. Emmanuel Ojeme who congratulated the Commissioner on his appointment into the state executive council, said that the management of the college was highly determined to make the institution a reputable centre of excellence in sports development in line with the vision of the college.
The Provost who noted that the college was running degree programmes in four areas in collaboration with the Delta State University, Abraka, said “we have various sports clubs that have stimulated athletic development in the college”.
While saying that a professional boxer has been employed by the state government to take care of the boxing department in the college, the Provost stated that the institution was grappling with many challenges which he listed to include inadequate funding, encroachment on the college land as a result of incomplete perimeter fencing of the school and lack of official vehicles for principal officers in the college among others, even as he appealed to the Commissioner to help authorities of the school mitigate the challenges.
